San Salvatore di Sinis is a small village centred on the church and the cumbessias, houses used during religious celebrations. Its simple appearance also made it a film set for several westerns.

History of the village

The area has been a place of worship since ancient times. Beneath the church is an underground sanctuary with inscriptions and images from different periods.

The Sardinian western set

Between the 1960s and 1990s, the village became a film set because it resembled frontier settlements. Its streets and houses still create a distinctive atmosphere today.

The Corsa degli Scalzi

In early September the village comes alive for one of Sardinia’s most heartfelt traditions. The curridoris carry the saint’s statue from Cabras to San Salvatore and back, running barefoot.
